An everyday carry for all denizens in the A.K., what the standard wristcomp offers is outstanding computation and integrated technology inside the portability and form factor of a common wristwatch.
The first noticeable trait is its holographic display, with 3D projection capabilities. The quality and performance of this feature is varied, with higher end features only on the much more expensive, and elite models. There is a much larger population that only employs the base model, and all the essential features.
This includes a standard communicator, both text and audio, holovisor integration, navigation and an assortment of functional tools that integrate seamlessly within the city's neural grid. A wrist comp could be considered a necessity, yet also a means of control by the Corporations.
It is not uncommon for Underground technicians to take these apart, assembling them back together with new "crowd sourced" parts and stolen corporate tech. The end result is what's known topside and below as Banned Tech. It bears a digital signature that turns the display a vibrant orange upon registering within the cities neural grid, easily identifiable by Corporate Agents. No one known inside the Underground has been able to reverse hack this feature, while only managing to delay the inevitable response through debugging software. The result of this, is the limited use of banned tech within city limits, or at least around neural net response nodes.
Wristcomps are used in the Underground and abroad as the ultimate hacking tool. A versatile multi-tool, with holographic displays to orient you with 3D mapping, haptic keyboards, overshield integration, and infinite possibilities to reconfigure to one's liking. For an upgraded and properly configured wristcomp, getting access to secure sites, through multiple firewalls is an ease, reducing hack difficulty and time to only minutes or seconds.
Outside of hacktivist collectives like the Animal Underground, most Animal users never tap into its full potential, yet it remains an absolute necessity in modern life and everyday use. Despite all its wonder and ingenuity, the feature used by Animals the most, is the ability to tell the time.
No one know's who created the first wristcomp, only it's prevalence as the go to tool for every day Animal citizens within the vast technological metropolis of the A.K. Outside of these city limits, it is seen as a cursed object by naturalist Animal communities that still exist beyond the borders of technology.
While often considered a double edged sword amongst Underground Operatives that prefer to remain offline, it is undoubtably the most versatile tool for a field operative. A necessity. Regardless of this utility, the wristcomp and online integration at it's core is still seen as a threat to all Animals attempting to achieve True Nature.
